Eiji was actually the one who prompted me to start collecting the Bakuman nendoroid series. Seeing Ashirogi’s release did not urge me to spend my wallet, well, at least not until I saw that Eiji was coming out. Since he’s my favorite character in Bakuman, I just had to get him, and if I was going to purchase him, I might as well purchase the rest that’s available too. So I did, and it was a good thing I could still find Ashirogi up for sale at that point of time. Now, I am glad that I did not miss out any of those amazing characters!
Alright! Let’s start with the showcase! Like always, we’ll first look at the box! It’s very similar to Ashirogi’s boxes, except that it’s dark purple and there’s a bit of changes like bits of splattered paint on the surface. The ruler measurements border is not as obvious as well. I really like this shade of purple!
The captions are quite different from Ashirogi’s one as well! Caption on the left is roughly translated to “Genius interchangeable manga artist action figure!” and the right to be “Ashirogi Muto’s biggest rival!”
Since I can’t do very decent translation, I think I’ll just skip them all next time.
It’s probably only me who will fall for this, but the splattered paint design gave me a fright when I first saw them because I thought that I dirtied the box (I treasure figures’ boxes quite a lot). I got freaked out both times that I felt kind of stupid, heh.
So now we’re onto the contents! Eiji comes with a yellow background, though I can’t say I’m a big fan of the yellow-purple combination; it looks sort of messy. Eiji also comes with a lot of extra pair of arms! Cool!
Eiji himself does not have a lot of details because his outfit–which is what I believe to be a sweater–is in only one color. There are hints of wrinkles on his sweater though, so I thought that it was a very nice touch! Also, plus point for Eiji’s unique facial expression!
Talking about feather pens, the ones stuck to his upper back are really lovely too! They make him look like he has a pair of wings! I like the way the area near his neckline is made as it really emphasize the weight of the pens!
One thing that surprised me was his stand as it’s really clear compared to the others I own! I thought I’ll take a photograph for comparison but it doesn’t seem to be very obvious in it. The left is Eiji’s and the right being Mashiro’s.
I thought Eiji looked perfect until I tried to change his face plates. I noticed that he received a scar near his right eye due to paint transfer from his hair. The hair piece blocks the scar when fixed together so I’ve yet to try removing it.
Right! Time to browse his accessories! I especially like the pair of hands that’s filled with tools! It gives the character a fun and exciting outward appearance! It’s even more so when you place that pair of hands together with his sketch book!
In conclusion, Eiji is a character with a generally plain look but has really interesting facial expressions and poses! He comes along with so many arms that makes it possible for you to create many amusing actions and of course, to recreate many scenes from the show itself! He is definitely one character that will make you smile when you look at him, especially with his smiling expression! Certainly worth a purchase!
